Program Structure

The course is taught in three languages – English, Portuguese and Spanish – with simultaneous translation. We offer the interpretation/translation equipment. The program is a mixture of lecture intensive seminar and empirical classes.

We use as a methodology the theoretical classes, each class with two hours of duration, followed by one an hour and a half of workshop/discussion. Two theoretical classes are taught per day. In addition, two empirical classes were held in each edition of the International School.

The empirical class constitutes a full-immersion experience, a unique contact between the academia and what is produced in popular culture, being a night of much “samba in the foot”. According to the students’ testimonies, the empirical classes provide moments of intense practical/theoretical/political learning, dialogue and reflection among different black feminist experiences, so we have been constantly challenged to create new methodologies and activist political-epistemological strategies.

The meeting between researchers and black feminists from different countries has provided an excellent opportunity for learning and exchange of experiences. Space and time for students’ self-organized workshops and discussions will be provided. These workshops will be organized along students’ interests.

The school starts on a Sunday evening with an opening reception and ends on a Friday night with small celebration. Theoretical classes, empirical classes, and workshops are held from Monday to Friday.
